FAQs

What do I expect in an Intro Class?
Honestly, you will probably find a mix of women of all ages. Some come in groups.  "my friends and I decided to try it out"  or "my friends made me do it"  are common reasons for this first experience.  Then there are the individuals who are ready to try something new, were curious, or are looking to increase the number of tools they have in their sexy girl tool box.  The long and the short of it is....everyone there will be a little nervous, excited and probably a little shy. Don't get me wrong , you may get someone who is already ready to make good friends with the pole, but ultimately you will all be there to try something new together.  YOU WILL NOT GET TO FLIP UPSIDE DOWN!  That is dangerous. If the instructor suggests you do this, run out the door, do not pass go, but do stop to get a refund.  You will dance, you will spin, you will get a bit of a work out, and you will leave HAPPY!!

What should I wear to my first pole class?
If you are just starting, think "comfortable." Form fitted shorts are always best.  In the beginning you want to wear something that will allow you to connect skin with pole at your ankles and behind your knees.  Things that do not mix well with a metal pole are lotion and fabric.  They = SLIP.  Skin contact is your friend.  As you get more advanced you will know what works best for you.  You also might want to forgo the bling for the evening.

When do I get to wear the COOL SHOES?
As a short women this was important to me, but quite honestly, I don't wear shoes often.  The answer is, depends on the studio.  Some let you wear them in your second class.  Just ask yourself one question before you enter your first pair of 6-10 inch heels.  Can I walk in regular heels without killing my ankles?  If the answer is no, then start with a lower heel and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE.  Trust me, your boyfriend will not mind if you are walking around the house in PJs and stilettos.

Does this make me a stripper?
Silly Girl.  Absolutely not.  Unless you wanna be.

What should I look for in a studio?
Most importantly, you need to feel comfortable there.  Whatever your level, try the intro class BEFORE you purchase sessions.  They are usually between $20-$30 and if you decide to purchase sessions, most studios will apply that as a credit of sort to what you decide to buy. How long have the instructors been teaching pole and what is their background?  Look for fitness, dance, gymnastic, or pole specific experience.  What are their safety practices?  Any studio should have no problems answering these questions. Lastly, ask your friends, check out sites like this and ASK QUESTIONS.  We were all in your shoes once and are ready to help you experience the beauty of pole dancing.

Do I have to be super fit to pole dance?
That makes about as much sense as my favorite why-my-friends-won't-work-out-with-me excuse; "I want to get in shape before I start working out regularly."  Everybody has to walk before they can climb.  We were all there.  JUST DO IT.

Can I bring my boyfriend or hubbie to watch?
NOPE NOPE NOPE. Closed to ladies only.  Many studios have performance nights where ladies can opt to bring a guest to watch the performance.  These are generally invitation only events.  Please remember that there are a number of women out there who are pole dancing for themselves and have no intention of ever dancing for a significant other.  For this reason please respect the privacy of your fellow pole ladies and trust that there will be opportunities for you to strut your stuff if that is what you want to do.  Get on with your bad self.
